Top 3 Ways to Get Fuller Lips!

I don’t think I have ever heard someone say, “why do I have such annoyingly full and plump lips, if only I had thin, small lips”.
Nobody wants lizard lips, but unfortunately not all of us are born with a kisser like Angelina Jolie.
So what do you do if you have thin little lips and you desperately are seeking a plump kissable pout?
There are three ways to get the lips you want and desire, and today we take a look at them with advice from expert dermatologist Dr. Lisa Kellett from her clinic DLK on Avenue.
The DIY Method
Many DIYers might be intrigued by this very cheap and easy at home method for lip plumping. The key ingredient is cayenne pepper. Mix it with a little olive or coconut oil, and apply to lips. Let sit for about 10 minutes (or as long as you can stand the burn), then remove for swollen lips that will last a couple of hours.
Question: Is this a safe and effective treatment?
Answer: I would not advise this treatment as the skin can develop a severe reaction called contact dermatitis to cayenne pepper. This reaction might necessitate medical treatment so this is not a good idea. – Dr. Lisa Kellett
PROS
- Very cheap
- Do it at home
CONS
- Can be messy
- Only lasts a couple of hours max
- Burning and pain. There is a reason your lips get swollen!
- You might have a bad reaction and the area surrounding your lips might get inflamed.
So lets take a look at some before and after pics using this method.
Ouch! These look a little sore.
The Permanent Makeup Method
Yes there is a thing called permanent makeup, you might know it by the other name common name, a tattoo! An artist who specializes in this type of tattooing, will tattoo lip liner and add colour to your lips to make them appear fuller.
Question: Are there any risks of tattooing your lips?
Answer: Yes, there is a risk of infection, allergic reaction, foregih body reaction with nodules developing on the lips and inappropriate colour or placement of the tattoo. – Dr. Lisa Kellett
PROS
- Permanent
- Your lips can also get a colour boost while your at it
- Evens the edges of your lips
CONS
- Sometimes the results can look clownish
- The colour you choose is the colour you are stuck with for the rest of your life
- Painful process
- Requires healing time
- Depending on the skill of the tattoo artist, sometimes the tattoo lip liner doesn’t blend well with your natural lip colour.
So let’s take a look at the results!
Is it just me or is the circus coming to town?
The Injectable Method
A brand new injectable treatment called Emervel Lips has just hit the market in Canada, and Dr. Lisa Kellett is one of the first to be using it. This treatment is very popular in the UK and has been getting great results. A needle is used to inject this filler into the lips where fullness is desired.
Question: Have your clients been happy with this new treatment?
Answer: My patients have been very happy with Emervel Lips. There is minimal swelling and a nice, soft lip can be the result. – Dr. Lisa Kellett
PROS
- Looks natural
- Lips are actually fuller, instead of just looking like they are.
- Lip line is natural
- You can control how much fullness you desire
- Designed for sensitive lips
- Smooths out wrinkles
- Optimize lip shape, add fullness where it’s needed
CONS
- Costly
- Last for 6 months, so you will need touch ups
