Nuxe Micellar Foam Cleanser

$21 at The Bay

What it is: A soap-free foam cleanser that helps rid your skin of impurities (using micellar technology) while keeping natural moisture levels balanced. This non-comedogenic and paraben-free cleanser is made of 89% natural origin ingredients.

Why I’m not crazy about it: When I read the ingredients, I noticed that sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is listed as number five. As an educated skincare writer and customer, I’m aware that SLS isn’t ideal for sensitive skin since it can cause dryness and redness. And the ironic thing is, this cleanser is marketed for normal to combination sensitive skin. Hmmm. During the first few days of use, the moisture was sucked out of my cheeks. Then the dryness calmed down. Occasionally after that, I had dry spells in the morning; when this happened, I washed my face in the evening with an exfoliating cleanser, which removed the dead skin.

I was hesitant about the rose petal scent — old lady-perfume to me. But after using it for a month, the scent becomes pleasantly faint.

On the plus side, this cleanser successfully removes makeup. Usually after an evening facial wash, I have to re-wipe the eyeliner off my eyes. One wash with Nuxe’s foam cleanser always did the trick. And as someone with acne-prone skin, I was relieved to find that the cleanser didn’t make me breakout.

Bottom line: This cleanser is just okay.
