Micro-needling

Micro-needling

Micro-needling (aka how I got rid of my forehead wrinkles)!

I used to have train track wrinkles going straight across my forehead making me look more like Gordon Ramsay than I care to admit. I tried to hide them with bangs but I look silly with bangs. I bought all the wrinkle creams, and I apply sunscreen daily – even when it’s raining, but the wrinkles still persist. Serious surgery is not something I would ever consider, (no judgement, it’s just not for me). So, I thought I was doomed to have my train tracks forever… that is until I discovered micro-needling.

What is micro-needling (aka collagen induction therapy)?
At  DLK on Avenue (where I went for my treatment), they use the gold-standard of professional micro-needling. The device glides over your skin safely puncturing the surface thousands of times with precision micro-needles.

How does it work?
The tiny punctures trigger the skin’s natural healing process and stimulates the growth of collagen.  As a result, skin will naturally repair itself over time, reducing fine lines and acne scars.

Needles in the face sound a little scary, so let me walk you through the process…

Arrival: I arrived at DLK and was greeted by the friendly and professional staff, who led me to my treatment room. I was offered a bottle of water, room temperature or chilled – nice touch eh!  I laid down and was provided a thick blanket to keep me warm and comfortable throughout the treatment. All cozied up I’m starting to think I could fall asleep…

The treatment: my skin was cleansed thoroughly then a numbing cream was smoothed over my face.  While the cream was being applied, I happened to mention that my hooded eyelids are also a cause of concern and I was delighted when to learn that micro-needling could help tighten my eyelids as well! The numbing cream needed about 30 minutes to work its magic, so I was left to rest and relax.  Nap time!

When my face was numb, the cream was removed, and the treatment began. I was a little nervous at first, but then immediately relaxed as I discovered the treatment was completely pain-free. Once the micro-needling was done (a very quick process), a cooling sheet mask was applied to soothe my face and help reduce any redness. Once the sheet mask was removed, I was all done. I was given an aftercare kit which contained a cleanser, moisturized, and sun screen.

The healing: After the treatment, I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t bleeding and gory looking like I imagined, I actually looked almost totally normal. My skin was slightly rosy, and a little shiny from the serums, but other than that I looked just fine.

After a few hours, when the numbing effect wore off, my skin felt a little tingly and tight as if I had a little bit of a sunburn, but it was barely noticeable. I was warned that I may need a few days to heal, but by the next day my skin was fine enough that I even went out on a date. Talk about a speedy recovery!

The result: the treatment was so easy and pain-free that I was worried I wouldn’t see any results.  The skin improves over time as it heals naturally from within. It’s amazing to watch your skin gradually improve, getting smoother, and smoother every day!

After one treatment, the results were small, but my wrinkles were ever so slightly improved. After two treatments, I really started seeing results. My skin still looks like my own skin (no frozen face or scars), just my skin – only better! My forehead wrinkles are greatly reduced, and I have a youthful glow. The best part is that because my skin is healing itself, these results don’t wear off in a couple of months, this is my own new beautiful skin!

Would I recommend it?
Absolutely! If you want a treatment that will help reduce fine lines or scarring, and give your skin a youthful glow, this is a fantastic treatment for you. I hope to go for a third treatment soon which I believe will get rid of my forehead wrinkles for good. The final look is so natural and gradual that no one will even notice you had a treatment done, but don’t be surprised when people start asking you what your skincare routine is. 😉 and you can tell them where you got The Skiny.
