Get a 4-day glow

By Jessica Wortsman

For my first foray into the world of clinical skincare, I was given the opportunity to try the Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion Facial at DLK on Avenue.  The oxygen facial first gained notoriety back in 2006 when Madonna revealed in a Harper’s Bazaar interview that she credited her flawless complexion to regular oxygen facials.  The merits of this treatment have since been debated and though it offers no long-term results, it is a popular hydration booster for patients between more aggressive treatments and has found favour with many prominent spas and dermatologists.  Intraceuticals, the Australian company behind the oxygen compressor and its serums, claims that treatment results are immediate and cumulative and tout A-list celebrities like Fergie, Victoria Beckham, and Justin Timberlake as loyal clients.

What it is:

The Intraceuticals Oxygen Facial uses oxygen under hyperbaric pressure to deliver active serums into the deeper layers of the skin.  This technique provides immediate and exceptional hydration thereby plumping the skin and temporarily diminishing the appearance of fine lines.  The skin is left radiant and dewy.  The actual treatment involves having a device, similar to an airbrush, run across the entire surface of your face as a jet of pressurized air and a fine mist of serum are projected out of the tip and directly into your skin.  The sensation is pleasant and the entire process is brief.

I was given the Rejuvenating serum containing:

  • Vitamin C, considered a pigment prohibitor, free radical fighter, and collagen stimulator
  •  Vitamin E, known to reduce redness and defend against sun damage
  • Free radical fighting green tea, which also provides sunblocking properties
  • Hyaluronic acid, otherwise known as the moisture magnet
  • Aloe Vera, which is both healing and anti-inflammatory

My Results:

Immediately following the treatment, my skin was incredibly moist and dewy.  When I looked closely in the mirror, I could see that my overall complexion seemed more even-toned and that my skin seemed plump and luminous.  I was told that make-up would apply brilliantly at this point but I chose to remain au naturel for the remainder of the day and enjoy my refreshed face.  It should be noted though, that by day 4 post-treatment, my skin was back to normal.

So who should try this?

Anyone needing an immediate boost of hydration or an overall youthful and radiant complexion, perhaps before an important event.  I would have loved one of these the day before my wedding!  Keep in mind, results are temporary so make sure you’ve got plans to show off your glowing face while you’ve still got it. In order to improve absorption of the active ingredients in the serum, prior microdermabrasion or exfoliation of some type is highly recommended, and could possibly lead to a longer-lasting glow.

Cost $250 at DLK on Avenue

Try to refrain from washing your face for five hours post-treatment and use adequate sun protection such as Kellett Skincare Reflect Anti-Aging SPF 30, $35.
