Glowing Green Smoothie
Kimberly Snyder, a celebrity nutritionist credits her smooth flawless complexion to her GGS: Glowing Green Smoothie. Her book The Beauty Detox Solution has been a heavily dog-eared book on my nightstand since its release last year. She talks about some eye-opening stuff like how dairy can attribute to a slew of health and skin problems.
I try my best to eat a big salad every day to get my greens, but when times get busy, I try to be preemptive and make a big batch of Synder’s GGS on Sunday night so that on Monday morning, all I do is pour myself a glass full and chug it down. And Boom! I’ve met my greens quota for the day! There’s usually enough left over for about four days. Sometimes I’ll add some protein powder into the mix to up its fullness factor. According to Snyder, drinking a glass of her GGS every morning delievers a whopping dose of super-cleansing chlorophyll, which may help eliminate toxins that contribute to bloating and bad skin. The fruits (pear, apple and banana) in this recipe provides enough sweetness to satisfy even the pickiest eaters.
For a few days worth of smoothies, blend the following ingredients and refrigerate:
1 ½ cups water
2 cups chopped organic romaine lettuce
3 -4 stalks organic celery
3 cups organic spinach
1 organic apple, cored and chopped
1 organic pear, cored and chopped
1 organic banana
Juice of ½ organic lemon
Kim suggests, “Vary this recipe with kale, chard, arugula, and the like. Just avoid melons, as they don’t combine well with other produce.”
