What to do when you’ve come down with Billy Bob Syndrome? Dermatologist Dr. Lisa Kellett of DLK on Avenue in Toronto advises Weekly Scoop readers there are three methods to call upon when you want to say, “Ta-ta tattoo”:
1. THE QUICKEST AND EASIEST METHOD
Makeup: Heavy concealing makeup held in place with face powder. Results: Fast but non-permanent.
2. STILL EMPLOYED IN SOME INSTANCES
Skin graft: An actual removal of the inked pattern and surrounding skin with a fresh patch of skin grafted in its place, taken from an unobtrusive area on your body. Results: The ink is gone but the graft may be visible.
3. THE MORE MODERN APPROACH
Q-Switched Ruby laser: The laser is rapidly pulsed, dissolving the tattoo ink without destroying the skin. Results: Dr. Kellett advises that in the case of amateur tattoos (where the inks are not as deep or permanent), three to five laser treatments are necessary. For high-quality professional tattoos (where more intense ink is used) five to eight laser treatments are advised, depending on the depth of penetration.
OUR ADVICE: Really think before you ink. And stay away from the name game.
