Over priced and fussy!

Prevage Anti-Aging Eye Cream Sunscreen SPF 15, $100

What it is A multi-defense eye cream with advanced idebenone technology provides serious environmental protection, all day intensive moisture and encapsulated sunscreens. Helps smooth the appearance of fine lines, crow’s feet and crepiness and helps prevent future aging signs. Eyes instantly appear smoother and brighter.

Why I hate it Reason #1 You have to use a little putty knife to apply it. Apparently it is for hygienic reasons, as some beauty experts think touching cream with your fingers can cause bacteria to get into the jar. I’ve got no hang ups about hygiene in my eye cream but I generally prefer eye creams in tubes or pump containers for convenience. So the whole I-need-to-use-the-special-metal-applicator-knife was very annoying.

Reason #2 It caused red scaly skin underneath my eyes after a week of regular use. See pic below (sorry for the blurriness). I blame idebenone  – the star antioxidant present in all Prevage products. The line Priori Skincare also uses idebenone, which is an expensive to ingredient they describe as “the bioengineered cousin of the vital human antioxidant enzyme – CoEnzyme Q10 – and up to 1000x more effective, simply put it is “Super CoQ10″. Idebenone sounds amazing doesn’t it? Well apparently idebenone is known to cause inflammation in some people. I learned this when I did a This vs That story pegging this cream against a derm-developed eye cream. Read the story here (there’s a clearer pic of my allergic reaction there!). my allergic reaction

Reason #3 The copious amount of fine print and the lengthy ingredient list. Take a look for yourself…

Yikes, right? As mentioned my skin reacted badly to this cream  –  which I now consider to be just a thick cocktail of hog wash and irritants (its got parabens!).
