Better skin in 1 month!

Toronto Dermatologist Dr. Lisa Kellett has a prep schedule for your skin that’ll have you looking event-ready in just one month. Here’s exactly how to prep skin for wedding, prom, reunion, or any huge life-altering event:

ONE MONTH BEFORE
Feet–Before Bed, but after bathing or showering, soak your feet for about 10 minutes. Then use a foot file to scrub away rough skin. Apply a liberal amount of petroleum jelly to the heels and tops of your feet and then wrap both feet with Saran wrap. Put on socks and go to bed.

Hands–This treatment is designed to smooth rough, dry hands. Find a pair of cotton gloves and then each night before bed, apply a generous layer of cold cream to your hands. Put on the gloves and go to bed. If your hands are in fairly good condition you can start this treatment a couple of days before the reunion.

Exfoliate
–the key to soft, smooth skin is exfoliation, a step which many women skip. Exfoliate everyday and you’ll see an improvement in skin tone. Look for an exfoliator with small beads, is non-irritating, and has a non-foamy base. Work it into the face for about 2-3 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Exfoliate in the morning and at night 2-3 days a week.

Facial Mask
–A good hydrating mask won’t make you look 20 years younger but it will tighten the skin and make pores look smaller. Apply a mask every other day one month before the reunion. Look for one containing vitamin A (helps to rejuvenate collagen production) and salicylic acid (otherwise know as beta hydroxy acid – removes dirt from your pores). Apply a generous amount to clean skin and leave on for approximately 10 minutes. Then rinse your face. Use at night before bed.

TWO WEEKS BEFORE

New Products–Don’t use any new products two weeks before your reunion. They may cause breakouts or skin irritation.

ONE WEEK BEFORE

Blemishes–Use a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment once a day (twice a day if you’re under stress and breaking out) on the blemish only. Look for products with 2.5%-5% benzoyl peroxide and be careful not to overuse, which can dry out or irritate your skin.

A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE

Puffy Eyes–A tried and true method for relieving puffiness around the eye area is teabags. Place a used teabag on each eye for about 15 minutes to decrease eyelid swelling.

Alcohol–Alcohol will cause you to swell so limit your consumption several days before the reunion.

Water–Drink lots of water several days before the reunion.

Tanning
–Don’t get a tan before your reunion, but if you insist and get a sunburn, decrease redness by using a product with an antioxidant like green tea.
