Fractora For Scars

22-year-old Aneta Iskra has had acne scarring for two years. She is a receptionist at Francesca’s Salon & Spa in Forest Hill, and when they introduced a new resurfacing laser to the spa, she decided to give it a try. The Fractora skin resurfacing treatment is the first bipolar radio-frequency fractional treatment for the purpose of skin tightening, rejuvenation, and reducing the look of deep acne, wrinkles, and scars. It works on scars by fractionally ablating the skin, which causes micro trauma to the depressed markings. This will help  to restructure deeper tissue and promote regeneration of healthier smooth skin. Here, we talk to both the client (Aneta, pictured above on the right) and the medical aesthetician (Ramona, on left) who performed the service.

The Client: Aneta

Q: What made you decide to try Fractora?

A: After struggling with acne for a couple of years and after  numerous attempts at other treatments, nothing seemed to help and I was frustrated with my skin. My self-esteem suffered, showing my face in public especially in my line of work was always difficult. I always caked make up on in an attempt to hide the scaring. Even going swimming or going to the beach, I always had to wear a lot of makeup. I almost never wore my hair pulled back and stuck to hair styles that hung in front of my face. When Ramona first introduced me to Fractora, I was excited at the possibility of trying a new treatment, but of course was skeptical as I had already tried so many treatments that promised miraculous results.

Q: How did the treatment feel like?

A: Treatment started with a numbing cream, which alleviated most of the discomfort. I would not describe the feeling as pain. It was rather like little shocks and a hot prickly feeling on my face. This feeling was completely bearable. After the treatment the skin looked very red and swollen (and looked much worse than it felt), however, after a couple of hours the redness started to subside as did the swelling and immediately my skin texture showed great improvement. When I got home that night, everyone commented on how good my skin looked already!

Q: Are you planning on doing more treatments?

A: Yes! Yes! Yes! I would have loved to have done one already a week after my first but I was told that my skin needs to heal completely before I can do another treatment and that should take about a month. I am extremely excited to do the next one – can hardly wait!

The medical aesthetician: Ramona Covriga

Q: Describe Aneta’s improvement after the first treatment; and what is your prediction on how many more treatments she will need?

A: I used the 60 pin head at a 25mj/p with a double pass. We treated the whole face except the forehead. Areas of concern were the cheeks where most of the scaring was. A few hours after the treatment, when the redness subsided, I could already see some improvement on her skin. The texture was improved and her skin had a more even tone. After only the first treatment her acne holes, redness and texture were at least 60% improved. I estimate another two treatments for sure and perhaps a third.

Q: Is Fractora safe to use on all skin types?

A: It is safe to use on skin types 1 to 4, however no recent sun exposed skin can be treated. Fractora is the most advanced fractional radio frequency treatment providing anti-aging improvement on skin tone and texture for a more radiant appearance through ablation and skin resurfacing. It has also proven to successfully treat wrinkles, fine lines, deep lines, texture and pigment irregularities, redness and acne scaring.

Q. How much does a treatment cost?

A: Price ranges from $300 to $1500 per treatment.
