3 Crazy Pants to Buy Now
Coloured, printed pants may seem intimidating and too youthful but they’re one of the safest and most effortless ways to add a hit of haute to your closet.
“Printed, coloured jeans are so hot right now and you can get a pair anywhere. But we carry some quality brands that can do wonders for your figure. And because pants are so far from your face, you never have to worry about the colour or print not looking good against your skin tone.” says Elaine Iordanous (pictured above on left), buyer and manager at Freda’s, a boutique on King and Bathurst in Toronto that has been catering to the modern professional woman since the mid eighties (think Ann Taylor meets Aritzia). Iordanous and her older sister, Paulina Georgiou, run the 20,000 square feet space, which encompasses a store plus manufacturing facility in the back (which offers quick alteration on the spot) that their mother Freda started in the seventies.
Here, the stylish sisters show you three styles that are flying off their shelves because they’re crazy good to your bottom half.
1. The reversable coloured Jean by Bleulab, $225, in red/chalk – burgundy on one side and grey on the other – gives you more bang for your buck. Called the “Detour Legging”, this soft, but not too soft, jean hugs onto your best assets without looking too tight. The sophisticated red wine colour goes well with classic office wear while the grey keeps you looking hip on the weekends. It’s a wear-forever pant!
2. Waxy printed jeans by Rich and Skinny, $260 come in various animal prints in subdued hues that look surprisingly fresh on anyone. They have a bit of stretch, which makes them wearable for the long haul. Try these with a basic top in a solid colour. Getting all matchy-matchy with prints can age you.
3. The Tummy Tuck jeans by Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, $189 (made famous by Oprah) in cherry red are our best sellers. It could be their leathery wax feel, but we think they’re selling like hot cakes because they make you look a size smaller! With a precision cut on the back plus a subtle stretch panel on the front, these high rises conceal a belly and lift your tush. What more can you ask from your pants?
