One of the most compelling beauty stories of 2014 was Esther Honig’s photo project Before & After. Honig, an American photo-journalist hired about 40 graphic designers in over twenty-five countries to edit her untouched image (above) into their image of ideal beauty. Her only request was to “make me beautiful.”
The result is a startling string of images that show how the standards of beauty differ in various countries around the world. However despite the culturally-charged changes in facial features and hairstyles, one thing remains constant: clear skin is in. Each processed image shows the artist with an unblemished, even-toned, radiant complexion. Proving that regardless of race, everyone wants good skin.
(I saved the most drastic transformation for last.)
